Ponies are stockier than horses and have shorter legs, wider barrels (bodies), shorter, thicker necks and shorter heads with broad foreheads, while their bones are also heavier. They are steady and have gentle dispositions as a whole; however, each pony has distinct characteristics. Ponies evolved in harsh environments and are known for their surefootedness, which allows them to traverse rough terrain well. They are extremely intelligent and some breeds, such as the Shetland pony, are famous for being cheeky! Ponies have an amazing memory, rumoured to be even better than that of an elephant.
